Project Objectives
The main objectives for this project were to develop a standalone app and an overlay feature that allow users to view ratings and provide feedback on Instagram accounts and content in an intuitive, user-friendly manner. The interface should be designed with accessible fonts and color choices to ensure readability, and ratings should follow familiar conventions with clear, simple definitions. Additionally, the overlay must integrate seamlessly with Instagram to avoid disrupting the existing user experience, while the standalone app should offer easy navigation for manual entry and accessing saved resources. These goals aim to enhance user interaction with Instagram content through intuitive design and accessible features
SageSight
A Mental Health App
Duration: FEB 2024 - MAY 2024
Role: Visual Designer
Design Process
After my team completed the competitive research, competitive analysis, user persona and survey analysis, it was time to begin working in our designated roles. As the visual designer, my responsibility was to select and design the visual elements of the product.
My initial step was to develop a mood board using Figma.
On the mood board, I incorporated examples showcasing how Instagram & Tik Tok currently addresses mental health claims.
Next, I began selecting colors for the app, drawing inspiration from my initial mood board photos. I chose three primary colors following the 60-30-10 rule. Utilizing the Foundations: Color Generator plugin on Figma, I tested these colors to ensure they met accessibility standards. I then selected the font for the app, using the Contrast plugin to ensure it met accessibility standards.
I was responsible for creating illustrations for the app. Using the website Undraw, I selected illustrations for various app pages and customized their colors to align with my chosen color palette.
Context and Background
Our team dedicated itself to developing a product addressing the crucial social issue of mental health. Through surveying 23 individuals, we identified a prevalent problem: users lack trust in mental health content and claims on social media. There is a common emphasis on making people feel more secure in using digital platforms both in terms of cybersecurity and reliability of information. People have cited needing a way to verify the accuracy of information so they can trust the resources amidst all the overwhelming misinformation out there.
Implementation
After finalizing the visual design aspects for the app, I transferred my work to the team. Together, we used Figma to develop a high-fidelity prototype of our product.
Conclusion
Designed to challenge information and embrace insight, the final product was a mental heath app called SageSight. SageSight is app designed to give community-based ratings to mental health profiles to combat inaccuracy. Users can save or create boards with posts for future reference. The app features an overlay function that integrates with Instagram, displaying whether statements regarding mental health are valid or invalid..
Our team successfully created a safe space for users, addressing their need to trust accurate information amidst the overwhelming misinformation about mental health found on social media.
